About the Culinary Arts Program
The Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts program is a 20-month course offered through the Columbus Culinary Institute at Bradford School. It includes training in knife skills, proper cooking techniques, baking and pastry arts, menu creation, and international cuisine.
The course includes an externship experience that promotes hands-on learning in a restaurant or commercial setting, which is rounded off with additional classes on the business side of running a kitchen. From inventory control and bar management to customer service, graduates are expected to be able to cope in real-world situations.
Accreditation
Bradford School is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. It is a fully-recognized educational institution to offer diplomas and Associate Degrees. The school is also certified by the State of Ohio Board of Career Colleges and Schools.
Financial Aid
Financial aid is available through state and federal sources for those who qualify. Private scholarships are also recognized by the school. All of these services are available independent of the school itself, although students get full access to financial aid representatives who can help with explanations, applications, and customized financial plans.
Faculty
The faculty members at the Columbus Culinary Institute are selected for their first-hand restaurant experience. They bring strong academic backgrounds and hands-on industry techniques. The intent is to train students with a combination of both basic theory and real-world applications. With a three-month externship requirement for all students, the faculty also includes managers and chefs working in local restaurants and commercial kitchens.
Facilities
The Bradford School's culinary facilities include five kitchen laboratories containing everything students need to work in today's top-of-the-line commercial kitchens. These kitchens are available for viewing by appointment for anyone interested in learning more. The school also offers residence facilities for students in need of housing; roughly half of the school's students live on campus for at least their first year.
