Birmingham, Alabama

Birmingham is a city that is rich in history, though sometimes that history is violent and turbulent one.  It was the center of the Civil Rights Movement, spawning immense changes in the country’s legal and cultural history.  From this city came Martin Luther King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” and the heartbreaking “Ballad of Birmingham,” by Dudley Randall.  From this strife, Birmingham emerged a stronger city, becoming a cultural center, with museums, opera, ballet, theater, orchestras, festivals, and more.  Birmingham continues its odyssey for change, with the investment of about one billion dollars into the downtown area.  This is attracting a vibrant restaurant, retail, and cultural community. There are more than 500 restaurants in Birmingham, so Culinard students will find ample job opportunities upon completion of their programs.
