About the AAS in Baking and Pastry Program

While similar to the standard associate culinary arts degree, this program is focused on the baking and pastry preparation. Each student will be put in a practical kitchen environment under expert instruction to learn baking and pastry techniques.

Instructors will also give students a foundation in such things as desserts, cake adornment, and advanced pastry techniques. With this education that includes critical thinking, successful graduates will be able to join the food service industry in entry-level positions such as line cook, pastry cook and pantry cook in food service establishments as restaurants and resorts both locally and internationally.

About the AAS in Culinary Arts Program

The Culinary Arts degree is offered as an Associate of Applied Science . The AAS is completed over a course of two years and prepares graduates to be hired for entry-level positions such as a line cook or garde manager. Coursework includes menu and beverage management, cost control, sanitation, and nutrition. In addition, you'll learn how to produce food quickly, and in quantity, while working with other creative individuals.

About the AAS Restaurant and Catering Management Program

A program that is beneficial to students pursing management positions in the food service industry, the AAS in Restaurant and Catering Management degree focuses its coursework on communications and leadership. In addition, students of this program will study technology, training, financial management, and customer relations.

Students of the Restaurant and Catering Management program will be well prepared to seek entry-level employment as a restaurant manager, or a catering manager in hospitals, banquet halls, and cruise ships.

About the BS in Food and Beverage Management Program

Available as a Bachelor of Science degree program, the Food & Beverage Management program at AI - Houston focuses on teaching students the secrets of running both the kitchen and the bar of a successful restaurant. In addition to basic culinary skills, students learn the secrets of bar operation and control, general business management, and food and wine pairings. Like the AA in Wine and Spirits, this course requires a minimum age of 21.

About the BS in Culinary Management Program

The Culinary Management BS degree focuses more on culinary skills related to running or managing a business. It includes courses on communication, leadership, human resources, marketing, food safety, and technology. The course includes a hands-on externship; otherwise, all instruction is provided in the classroom.
