Culinary Arts
Designed to provide hands-on training in culinary arts including food preparation skills, store room operations, presentation of classic and international cuisine, safety, sanitation, food selection, nutrition and purchasing. Upon successful completion of the program, you can enter the food service industry in positions as Cooks, Line Cooks, and Assistant Pastry Chefs.
As you path continues and you gain experience, your can pursue a career path to become a Chef by working in opportunities as Sous Chefs, Head Chefs, and Pastry Chefs. The culinary arts program finishes up with a 20-week externship offering you the opportunity to apply your skills.
Hospitality and Restaurant Management
A new program to assist students understand and gain the skills needed to enter the food service industry. Drawing on the resources of The Chef’s Academy, it integrates the industry’s preference for both food service (“the back of the house”) and hospitality (“the front of the house”) skills. The program includes a strong management component which encompasses problem-solving, forecasting, strategic-planning, team building, and human resource management.
Pastry Arts
This program prepares students for opportunities as Pastry Cooks and Assistant Pastry Chefs, and begins their career path to achieving Pastry Chef status. Students are introduced to the art of making specialty breads, cakes, pies, pastry creams and French pastry, presented with skills in advanced decoration and design, and given an overview of the operation of a commercial kitchen and a bake shop. The program culminates in a 16-week externship offering students opportunities to apply their skills.
Accreditation
Harrison College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to award Certificates, Diplomas and Associate of Applied Science degrees.
Faculty and Facilities
The student-to-faculty ratio at the Indianapolis campus of The Chef's Academy is low, which makes for small enough classes that students get a lot of individual attention. Members of the faculty are skilled and have experience in the fields of culinary arts and hospitality management. For more than 100 years, the instructors at Harrison College have been preparing students to start their careers.
Financial Aid
Students attending The Chef's Academy may qualify for a variety of financial aid options. The school also has a work study program in place so that undergrad students can earn money in addition to attending classes.
