About the Culinary Academy of Long Island

The Culinary Academy of Long Island has been in existence since 1996. In its first year, it only offered a Certificate in Professional Cooking. One year later, it added the Certificate in Commercial Cooking. This was further expanded in 2005 when the school became affiliated with the Culinary Academy of New York (located in lower Manhattan). This partnership allowed the school to include certification in Professional Pastry and Baking as well as Hotel Management.

Culinary Arts Student SyossetAll training provided by the school is performance-based, meaning that hands-on applications are stressed over simple observation or lectures. Class schedules are designed with flexibility to allow students currently working in other fields access to a culinary education in as few as nine months.

About the Certificate in Professional Cooking Program

The Certificate in Professional Cooking Program prepares graduates for entry-level food service roles. Courses include basic food preparation, knife handling, meeting deadlines, display, basic baking and cake decoration, large-party catering, food sanitation, and restaurant operations. About the Certificate in Professional Pastry and Baking Program

The Certificate in Professional Pastry and Baking Program includes advanced learning in breads, cakes, pastries, and other desserts. The internship for this program requires 200 hours of professional experience, and prepares graduates for entry-level positions in a number of food-related industries.
