Culinary Arts Student Virginia BeachThe school's mission is to provide educational programs to best prepare students for landing entry-level jobs. The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Virginia is a branch of The Art Institute of Atlanta, and offers an Associate of Arts degree in Culinary Arts, and a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts Management program to prospective students.

Associate of Arts - Culinary Arts

Available at The Art Institute of Virginia Beach as an Associate of Arts program, the Culinary Arts degree is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level employment as a pantry cook (garde manager), or line cook. In addition to learning the basics of nutrition, kitchen management, sanitation, cost control, safety, and menu/beverage management, students will learn how to produce food quickly in a hands-on fast-paced environment.

Bachelor of Science - Culinary Arts Management

The BS in Culinary Arts Management program is a much more in-depth course. It spans four years, beginning with basic culinary skills and moving up to advanced techniques. Outside the kitchen, it teaches students to work in restaurant management, human resources, the financial aspect of running a business, and legal issues. The entire course ends with a senior capstone project, after which time students receive either a Certified Culinarian or Certified Pastry Culinarian distinction from the American Culinary Foundation.

Accreditation

The Art Institute of Virginia Beach is a branch campus of The Art Institute of Atlanta. As such, it is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate and baccalaureate degrees.

Financial Aid

Private loans, federal assistance, and state grants and loans are accepted for those students who qualify. Other financial assistance programs include a system for payment plans and budgeting guidelines. The Financial Aid Office offers help to all students with applications, finding funding options, and simply answering questions or concerns. They may occasionally provide information on scholarship opportunities.

Faculty

Faculty members at the International Culinary School are chosen for their experience in the culinary field. Because they are professionals with real work experience, they are able to bring more than just lecture and theory to the classroom. These same faculty members and professionals in the local industry periodically review the curriculum to ensure that students remain on the cutting edge of training and technology. Because post-graduation employment is the ultimate goal, the Art Institute prides itself on changing along with the current culinary market.

The Art Institute of Virginia Beach is located at Suite 100, Two Columbus Center, 4500 Main Street, Virginia Beach, VA. This temporary facility includes offices, classrooms, an exhibition gallery, studios, and various laboratories. The permanent campus will contain all of these amenities, in addition to a computer lab.
